GETTING TO KNOW US AND WHAT WE BELIEVE

Confession of Faith

We believe in the only true and living God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; who is holy love, eternal, unchangeable in being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.  By word and action God invites persons into a covenant relationship.  God promises to be faithful to the covenant and to make all who believe his people.  All who respond with trust and commitment to God’s invitation find the promise sure and rejoice in being members of God’s people, the covenant community.  By word and action God invites persons into a covenant relationship.  God promises to be faithful to the covenant and to make all who believe his people.  All who respond with trust and commitment to God’s invitation find the promise sure and rejoice in being members of God’s people, the covenant community.  We believe marriage is between a man and a woman for the mutual benefit of each, their children, and society.

Our Church History
The Fulton Cumberland Presbyterian Church was organized in the year of 1887 with 18 members at the first service.

The bell on our current Church ground came into our possession in 1889 with the purchase of the old Methodist church. The cornerstone was saved and is now on our grounds.

The old Church building was sold for $1,000 to R.S. Morris for use as a hardware store and plans were started for a new Church.  Because of rapid Church growth and a need for expansion, a lot on Commercial Ave. was purchased where the former Fulton Doctor’s Clinic now stands. Soon afterwards, construction on a new church began and was completed in the spring of 1901. The first service was held in June.

In the early 1940’s, the need for a larger Church had become a reality. The Church learned that the property on the corner of Second and Eddings was available. The old Church was sold to Graham Furniture to be used as a warehouse. Groundbreaking was held for the new Church on Sept. 5, 1948.
First services were held in the basement of the new building. The first held in the newly completed sanctuary was on Nov. 20, 1949.  The membership was now 280.

The Fire

On May 14, 1995, lightening struck during a storm just a few hours before Church service, and the Church was totally destroyed by the fire. It was like a family member had died. Even though we were sad, it did not keep us from worshiping. The 1st Baptist Church invited us to have service in their Fellowship Hall. We met there a few weeks. During the service that day, we could feel the Lord’s presence, with hands and heart. We will overcome, as God is with us.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church of South Fulton graciously offered the use of their building and their offer was accepted. Our congregation met in their building each Sunday and Thursday from June 1995 to March 1997. Words cannot express our deepest appreciation to these Churches for their kindness.

Our New Church

Groundbreaking services were held on Sunday, March 31 at 3:00 PM on Parker Road in South Fulton. The ceremony marked the construction of a 10,000 sq. ft. Church on four acres of land.
The first worship service in our new Church was on March 9, 1997. Our first hymn was “Victory in Jesus”. The Holy Spirit was in the place. The dedication service was held on June 29, 1997, at 3:00 PM.
